How the forecast works

CapacityPulse samples up to 12 recent closed Scrum sprints, measures issue-count throughput, and runs 5,000 reproducible Monte Carlo simulations for a selected backlog scope.

P50 / P80 / P95

P80 means 80% of simulated histories completed the selected scope by that date or earlier. It is a planning range, not a guarantee.

Active sprint pressure

CapacityPulse compares total sprint scope and remaining work against historical throughput and the fraction of sprint time remaining.

Long horizons

If a P80 forecast extends far beyond the available history window, confidence is downgraded and the app recommends forecasting a smaller planning slice.

Limitations

The current release uses issue-count throughput and Jira Software Scrum boards. It does not forecast using Story Points, hours, Kanban cycle time, or individual availability.
